One of the best books I've ever read. I can't beleive how much detail Norman goes into; he very meticulously researched and organized his information. He dug deep to find every musical person John has ever come across in his career (or so it seems), and is not afraid to expose Lennon's "darker" side. I couldn't believe how much I learned about him through this book. I love how he mentions random childhood interactions that later became well known Beatles songs (Eleanor Rigby was a name on a tombstone at the church he used to pass by). Finding out how the songs we know and love came to be is very interesting and exciting...and even astonishing (like how Polythene Pam, Imagine, Norwegian Wood came to be)!
Yoko did not approve this book because she thinks Norman made Lennon out to be "mean," but I don't see it that way at all. This book is real. It doesn't skip over the bad parts to make him turn out to be a hero. He was a mjor influence on countless artists and other people, but he was no saint. And honestly, that's alright with most of us fans. He was a cheater, a joker, an addict, an absent father-turned-doting-father, a realist, and a tortured soul. Reliving every detail of a man's life that few have ever truly known is amazing. This book is a MUST READ!Get more detail about John Lennon: The Life.
