From a fundamentals standpoint, I would just about go as far as to say Michael Caine is to film acting something like what Syd Field is to Screenwriting. His approach to acting in film is rooted in such a deep understanding of the process. Micheal speaks about film acting with the confidence and wisdom that could only come from someone with his many years of experience. A lot of people I've spoken with in acting circles tend to consider him somewhat of an authority on the subject, and I'd have to agree that he has earned that title. Most useful from the perspective of a director/filmmaker, in my opinion, is Michael Caine's ability to pay equal attention to both the technical aspects associated specifically with acting for film, as well as the emotional truth and connectivity required for actors to succeed. I would definitely recommend this book, as well as the dvd version, for actors and directors alike.Get more detail about Acting in Film (Applause Acting Series).
