The methods in this book are great at getting you past whatever it is that blocks your creative output. The premise of generating a lot of material in a short period by giving yourself a very tight deadline and not allowing self censorship is the best technique I had found for writing songs myself before I read the book. The book takes that and many other techniques and methods, documents them and takes them farther. It could have saved me a lot of time and I would have written a lot more songs if I had read this book a few years back and put the techniques to use.
The only significant criticism I have for the book is the way it is organized. There are many sidebars that stretch on for several pages. You end up thumbing back and forth a lot to read the sidebars and then have to find the place in the main text where you left off.Get more detail about The Frustrated Songwriter's Handbook: A Radical Guide to Cutting Loose, Overcoming Blocks, and Writing the Best Songs of Your Life.
