How to Write a Damn Good Thriller: A Step-by-Step Guide for Novelists and Screenwriters Top Quality

//How to Write a Damn Good Thriller// is the next guide to writing from author James N. Frey, who also authored //... Damn Good Novel//, //... Damn Good Mystery//, and //The Key: Damn Good Fiction Using the Power of Myth//, to which he refers often in this book.

As the title promises, Frey has created a guidebook with step by step directions for constructing a thriller. First, articulate a germinating idea. Second, create a villain. Third, create a plot behind the plot, step by step. Fourth, create a hero, and so on. He uses a similar formula as he discusses plot structure, which he outlines in five bullet points.

There are lots of references to film (more so than to novels) and lots of repetition. It's helpful that through it all he takes the reader along as he crafts several of his own stories, teaching by example.

Frey has successfully produced a practical guide for anyone who wants to know how to write a thriller. Whether or not the story is "damn good" is bound to depend more on the person writing it.
